I Visa, for Media Representatives (Journalists)

Although not many lawyers encounter these infrequently issued visas (and our clients have actually questioned their usefulness), they do provide a way for foreign media representatives to work in the U.S. to create news reports for foreign audiences. The U.S. assignments on I-1 visas can either be short-term or long-term. Spouses and children of I-1 principals (who are bizarrely enough also called I-1s) can attend school in the U.S. on these visas. These visas are not for persons working on creating content for entertainment purposes, including reality television shows and personal blogs.
